Rodney Kingston

London landscape in oils. The drawing needed to be accurate and took perhaps 20 minutes, drawn with a brush with thin burnt umber paint, which dries a bit faster than some other colours. he started with a stright line for the top of the bridge and worked out all the buildings and their relatoinship to each other and later the bridge in relationship to them. Rodney then painted the buildings first, followed by the sky, then the water. At the end – the bridge and the cranes.

Nicki Hunter – loose florals in watercolour

At the tea break
The finished piece – in less than 90 minutes! (and 20 years of practice)

Takeaway tips – wet a small area at a time, put darks on early and having mixed the right colour in the first place (no layers!), some lost and found edges
