Rosso demonstrated her creation of a portrait in oils at our July meeting. She painted on an aluminium coated foam board which made a very smooth surface but still very light. Working from a photograph, she explained that she was always looking for shapes and proceeded to block in the dark shapes, using burnt sienna. No details were added until all the main shapes, including quite small ones were in place. Rosso recommended using a limited palette.
Rosso has twice been on Portrait Artist of the Year and was in the shortlist of three on one occasion.
